there is no time but to Sing...!

An afternoon of music by I値ana Sandra Cotton


 
  I値ana Cotton will present her work for solo piano and mixed chamber ensembles. These include compositions written in the past several years for string quartet, piano trio, for viola and piano, and for oboe, English horn, clarinet, bass clarinet and piano. The program will be on Sunday, January 16, at 3:00 pm, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 717 Siskiyou Boulevard. Admission at the door will be $10 for adults, $5 for students.

This concert will feature a performances by I値ana Cotton, composer and pianist, with guest performers: Pat Berlet, viola; Kristin Kessler, oboe/English horn; Marla Kasdorf, clarinet/bass clarinet; Michal Palzewicz, cello; Mikiko Petrucelli, piano; Larry Stubson, violin; Arlene Tayloe, violin; Lisa Truelove, cello.

Works on the program will include:

     Tectonic Slow Dance for piano (premiere)
     PlayThings for viola and piano
     PoemSongs for piano (premiere)
     Leuwi Asih for oboe, clarinet and gamelan degung (premiere)
     Flame for violin, cello and piano
     Dó-Bá Quartet for string quartet
     No Time But To Sing for processed vocals, piano, crystal marimba
     Night Crossing for English horn, bass clarinet and piano
     Songs of the Cosmos for piano

I値ana Cotton is a composer, improviser and pianist who has written extensively for chamber and choral ensembles, and has created commissions in collaboration with numerous choreographers and poets. She holds an M.A. in composition from the University of California at Los Angeles, and also studied both Indonesian and north Indian classical music. For over 20 years, she was on the music faculty of the College of San Mateo in California, and active throughout the Bay area as a modern dance accompanist. Since moving to the Rogue Valley in 2003, she has become director of the Southern Oregon Threshold Choir which serves the hospice community in Jackson County, and is a founding member of the Southern Oregon Chapter of NACUSA (National Ass地 of Composers/USA). She has also served as choir accompanist for several community choirs, and is a member of the SOU gamelan.
